DA's economy

So I made a rant about core membership but lemme clarify some things. Honestly DA's premium has always been really cheap compared to every other place where 1 month is about 15 dollars. I don't see raising the prices as bad thing, since it's still pretty cheap and DA obviously needs money to run this website. The only thing that makes this a horrible choice at the moment is economy in DA. So I'm sure almost all of us know that 80:points: is 1$ right? But still the economy is bad as fuck in this website. People complain 500:points: for full body is too much and back at the time my waist ups were 500:points: I only got 1 commission. Now I try to have reasonable price and no one buys them. I'm not putting the blame on people, but to economy. Points have pretty much zero value in DA. People think that 1 points is actually a lot when it's like 1 cent to be honest. Since majority of DA's userbase are teenagers who doesn't have the money to buy pm (excuse me again, CM), the only way they can afford premium is by doing commissions. But when prices are so high and economy is so bad earning money through commissions is pretty much impossible for us normal users. Only people who can sell art successfully are popular people and those who have created a brand for themselves. People want their art, because it's made by them and so are willing to pay more for it (which are usually reasonably priced tbh) but people like me who has no name or no brand, making money is either to sell yourself low and do slavery job for pretty much no money or just don't do them at all. And honestly this is reason why I don't do commissions. I don't have buyers who're willing to pay reasonable price for something I spent many many hours (since most of my works take about 20 hours just to fyi). I do have my commissions up. People do buy icons sometimes but I haven't got any normal commission. This is because economy in DA is shit, people don't know the value of art nor the value of points and are therefore refusing to buy art. I would like to buy commissions, but because I get no commissions I cannot afford them either. If I were to sell myself low, I could only afford art that's been sold as low as how I'd sell myself and therefore I would "support" the bad economy in this site.

DA is like surviving game, those who're lucky have it all and those who're unseen are left with nothing. And really DA is such a hit or miss I'm not gonna lie. I've been here overall for 4 years, 2 with this account and 2 with my previous account. And during these years I've tried really hard to get somekind of branding for myself, to support the economy, to earn some money and to support others as well. I always wanted to hold contest with prices worth joining for to really show the value of art to others(I swear if I had the money, my contest prices would be like 100$ for winner and no I'm not kidding). But honestly even though with my best efforts nothing has helped. I submit my works to over 100 groups and it does take me over 1h to do. Yet my art get's very little views, favs or comments. Now I'm simply stopped caring. I tried and it's all gone to vain, so I really don't expect anything anymore. Submitting art to DA used to make me so exited too, I always wanted to see how many comments I would get but now I don't even care if I get zero. I tried for nothing so I just don't care.

This is why DA is such a hit or miss and it's got a lot to do with luck as well. So I feel like if DA really wants to make this site a better place and raise up the prices, the economy has to be fixed first. Also while in life there's always people who're more popular and then those who're not, I feel like giving more exposure to regular artist would be good as well. At least somehow increase the changes to be seen here. I remember using to want to get DD really bad when I was younger but now I couldn't give a less. DD's aren't displayed at the bottom anymore so no one can even see them unless you go and look them up. Also the quality of DD's have dropped a lot. I'm not saying some don't deserve DD. I'm all about giving DD's to more unseen artists but there has to be at least some quality standard. I've seen regular kawaii art, that looked the same as any other kawaii art get a DD and only because "it's really cute". This is also the second problem that cv's feature too much work they just personally like. I mean yes it's not bad thing really but there's a lot of amazing works that aren't getting featured, just because it's not their taste, even though it's artistically very creative and technically good. At the same time I see pretty bad art (not pointing finger at anyone so don't get offended) getting features as DD just because they like kawaii sparkling anime girls, even though it doesn't stand out in anyway and is pretty much same stuff that DA is full off.

I'm just trying to say that DA has really failed to keep it's standards with art and money. Points have zero value anymore and skills in art matter none to get you a feature. (though the feature is pretty meaningless itself now, since no one sees it).

I feel you. These are all of the same reasons that I want to leave DA. I am starting my hiatus tonight and I think I will only ever come back to this site if some major improvements are made.

I am not upset about Core because I understand that websites can be expensive to run, with server costs and staffing to pay for, but there is a lot about DA that is so notoriously bad.

Because of llama trade and dAhub, you can get a few quick points, but it takes a long time to get 100 points without purchasing them. As a result, a lot of users have demanded that the price of commissions be dropped only for the sake of them being able to pay for it with a few points. "80 points for a bust shot? whoa, too pricy!" etc etc.

When you buy points it costs 1 dollar for 80 points, but when you cash out it's 1 dollar for 100 points. DA effectively takes 20% of the money involved in the transaction!
Also the maximum amount of points that you can transfer via points widget is 8000 (which converts to 80 dollars), with the maximum you can send to any one person in a year being 20000 points (200 dollars when cashed out). DA staff has claimed that it's the biggest advancement in online art-related transactions, but 200 dollars is cheap even for something like a logo. Professional artists don't make a lot of money, so they need to charge high so that they can pay for food and rent. It's like the points system and commission widget was designed so that it would be only a toy for hobbyists, and not at all viable for professionals whatsoever.
